Introduction to the European System
of Human Rights Protection - Practical Aspects
(Duration: 2 days)
After the ratification by Russia of
the European Convention of Human Rights, the European Convention for the
Prevention of Torture and the Framework Convention for the protection of
Minorities, numerous human rights problems still persist. Knowledge about
the content of these instruments and their practical application needs to
be disseminated.
Aim
The objective of this workshop is to
give an introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights. Participants
will acquire a basic knowledge of European human rights law. Their capacity
to disseminate the acquired knowledge and to make use of it in their daily
work (e.g. campaigning, etc.) and to possibly invoke human rights before
courts and administrative authorities will be strengthened.
Audience
The seminar is mainly directed to human
rights activists.
Learning methods to achieve the
aim
An emphasis is laid on inter-active
learning methods such as case studies, discussions in working groups and
a moot court (mock trial), enabling participants to effectively make use
of the acquired knowledge.
